Introduction

The Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education programme is to equip students with knowledge, skills and competencies for them to be professional and be employed in ECCE settings. i-CATS UC is committed to develop students’ care, teaching and administrative skills to a level that will allow them to succeed in the academic programmes of i-CATS UC and be competent caregivers, teachers or entrepreneurs in the industry. The programme is oriented according to the current needs of the industry to groom competitive graduates for employment. Through innovative, research-based educational practices, the programme aims to enhance students’ intellectual curiosity that will facilitate them in achieving academic excellence and nurturing their readiness for future advances in the global industry. Students will acquire knowledge and experience by engaging critical thinking and integrating independent and collaborative learning with the appropriate use of information technology in their study skills.

 

Objective

The objective of our Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education is to provide students with relevant and related knowledge and technically competence in good digital and numeracy skills: caring personality, positive attitude and entrepreneurial mind set in providing early childhood care and educational services: responsible and accountable in engaging families and communities through good communication and interpersonal skills in ensuring the well-being of children and professional, ethical and sustainable practices in carrying out their duties in providing early childhood care and education as early childhood educators at all ECCE settings.

 

Career Opportunities

The programme is intended for Early Childhood principals, administrators, teachers, care takers, and anyone who works with young children, in order to create a better education for young learners and potential young generations.

Entry Requirements

  • A pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with a minimum of three credits in any subject or its equivalent; OR 
  • A pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum Grade C [Grade Point (GP) 2.0] in any subject or its equivalent; OR 
  • A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of Maqbul; OR 
  • A pass in Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 3 in Early Child Care/Preschool (for this entry, bridging programme will be offered together with the ongoing curriculum within their studies for two semesters); OR
  •  A Certificate in Early Childhood Education or its equivalent; OR
  •  Matriculation or Foundation with at least CGPA of 2.00; OR 
  • Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) (A) in relevant field; OR
  •  A certificate in any field or its equivalent.
  • For international students, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 500 OR International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 OR its equivalent.
