KUCHING, 29 July 2026 – The Faculty of Computing and Software Engineering (FCSE) at i-CATS University College in collaboration with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), recently completed a two-day students’ showcase (28 July) and colloquium (29 July). The two-day affair, a first this year, culminated with an award ceremony with platinum sponsorship by Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS).
On 28 July 2026, the showcase day, members of the industry, members of the public, lecturers and students were given more time to look at individual projects. This year, EIGHT(8) Bachelor Degree IT Project 2, NINETEEN(19) Bachelor Degree IT Project 1, SIX (6) Diploma Final Year Projects: featuring mix of web, mobile, games development, AI and Internet of Things, were featured in the showcase including side exhibits from a multimedia course. This year also saw engagement of industry judges from SAINS, ARx Media Sdn Bhd and SDEC, as well as visits by Sarawak Energy Berhad, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak and others.
This year’s colloquium, on 29 July 2026, was also a collaboration with iCATS BRAIN – Big Data, Robotics & AI Network, a centre or hub at the university for artificial intelligence, data analytics, robotics and intelligent systems. The theme this year was: From AI Roadmap to Practice: Bridging Strategy, Industrial Needs and Data Driven Solutions. Through iCATS BRAIN, an international virtual keynote speaker Prof. Dr. Horoyuki Iida, Vice President, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology was secured alongside our very own Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohammad Nazim Jambli, Chief Digital Officer, as the first keynote speaker. These were complemented with industry keynotes by Mr Jonah Lau, CEO of Unbraided AI Sdn Bhd and Ms. Antionette Goh, Head, Research and Product Development, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad.
The award ceremony was graced by Mr Kho Thong Kway, Director of Specialised Systems Development Division of SAINS and Dr Khairul Hafiz Sharkawi (Vice President of SDEC). The recipients of this year’s award were as follows:
IT Project 2 for Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) from first to third respectively: Ronan Kuek Joo Pern (Skill Bridge, more than just repairs), Siew Xing Zhe (A Simulation Game Showcasing the New Signature Dish) and Jordan Chew Ik Loong (Real-Time Caption-in-Camera AR System for Hard-of-Hearing Students)
IT Project 1 for Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) from first to third respectively: Brendan Choo Yi Hong (Client Management System integrated with AI), Mohamad Norizam bin Rosli (AI-Powered Multi-Sensory Educational Game for Dyslexic Learners) and Ling Kim Chen (MallQuest — Mall Guidance and Management System)
Final Year Project for Diploma in Software Engineering from first to third respectively: Jong Chun Kai (Smart Vehicle Service Management System), Thian Yi Cheng(Farm Products Ordering and Delivery Web Application) and Ester Anak Rabie (Smart Mold Monitoring and Alert System using IoT)
Best Multimedia project for Diploma in Software Engineering: Andrew Liew Jui Onn, Dickson Bong Mao Xiang, Elijah Wong Xia Yuan and Lee Wei Chin.
