Recently, a training programme on Foundation of Industry Revolution 4.0 was held from 12 to 14 February at Sarawak Skills Development Centre (also known as Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak). The training was co-organised by Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), Sarawak Skills Development Centre and Kedah Industrial Skills and Management Development Centre (KISMEC). More than 30 participants from the industries namely Taiyo Yuden Sdn Bhd, Toko Electronic, Senari Synergy and Veonic Technology attended the training programme.
In his opening speech, Mr Mohamad Isham Bin Fauzi, Acting Deputy Executive Director (Business Development) of Sarawak Skills and Chief Executive Officer of the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (ICATS) mentioned that as a technical and vocational education and training provider, the Sarawak Skills Group of Institutions always keeps abreast of the advancements in Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). He added, “From the self-driving cars of TESLA to the drone-delivered on-line shopping experience from AMAZON, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is changing how we live, work, and communicate. And it is up to us to be prepared and welcome the limitless applications and implications of IR 4.0.”
The 3-day programme was primarily geared towards preparing the participants to embrace the concepts and practical applications of IR 4.0. The participants were exposed to the key technology enablers such as Industrial IoT, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security. This will enable them to understand the basic background of the technology pillars of IR 4.0 and real-time connectivity.
By understanding the Industry Revolution 4.0 framework, the end goal of this programme is to help participants to be familiar with the smart factory concepts. This will become a stepping stone to develop the industries in Sarawak. It is important for the various industries to remain relevant in an ever-changing and challenging global environment.
The trainer was Mr Royce Tan, Director, Bosch Rexroth Sdn Bhd. Mr Tan has more than twenty-five years of experience with the Bosch group, a leader in Industry Revolution 4.0.
