Working offshore on an oil rig or platform often conjures up images of a life filled with adventure(s), including the need to brave the elements at sea!
Recently, our alumnus, Mr. Timothy Balan Parir shared with us on his work in the oil and gas industry. He is a Field Engineer at Archer Well Company (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. The company is part of Archer Limited, a global oil services provider with a heritage in drilling and well services that stretches back over 40 years. The Archer Group operates in 40 locations around the globe.
With regard to his current duties and responsibilities as a Field Engineer, Timothy highlighted that he performs a wide range of duties under the umbrella of “field operations” at oil and gas well sites. An important aspect is ensuring compliance to the company’s Quality Assurance, and Health and Safety Systems.
Commenting on his studies at i-CATS, he shared, “I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering programme at i-CATS. It is an industry-relevant programme. I was also able to further my studies at the Bachelor’s degree level (Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering) in West Malaysia.”
His message to current students of PPKS and i-CATS: “During your studies, please participate actively in the various student clubs/activities. This will enable you to develop important skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork. For your reference, I was the Director of Sports and Culture under the Students’ Representative Committee at i-CATS. Always remember, A little progress each day adds up to big results.”
