With wave after wave of technological innovation(s) in this day and age, there is an urgent need for humankind to embrace the era of the ‘New Normal’. In this respect, our alumnus Mr. Mohd Nikirul Issac Bin Mohamad Khalick has remained steadfast in his quest to harness the power of new technology, to facilitate the smooth running of the operation(s) at his workplace. Yes, during our recent interview, he hit the nail on the head when he shared, “Being average is not good enough – we must thrive in the Age of Disruption!”

Currently, Mohd Nikirul is an Information Technology Technician at the Malaysian Construction Academy (Akademi Binaan Malaysia), Sarawak Region. The academy is the training arm of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). The academy develops and improves the skills of construction personnel by providing them with relevant competencies to meet industry standards.

With regard to his duties and responsibilities, he highlighted, “As a member of a team of IT professionals, my duties cover the broad spectrum of technical support services, including hardware, software and security-related issues. In this respect, I have honed/developed various attributes and skills such as learning agility, critical thinking and problem-solving. This enables me to think on my feet!”

Sharing on his studies at Sarawak Skills Kuching, he highlighted, “I wish to thank my instructors and staff members for their guidance and support! Thank you for believing in me! At Sarawak Skills, the teaching and learning ecosystem brought out the best in me. I was also a finalist during the WorldSkills Malaysia Sarawak Competition 2019 (IT Network Category). During the competition, I was able to put into practice my ‘arsenal’ of technical, communication and strategic thinking skills. These are industry-relevant skills!”

His message to current students of Sarawak Skills and i-CATS: Never give up, embrace the benefits of positive thinking, and keep learning – master new skills!
