For our alumnus Mr. Mitchel Singh s/o Ram Singh, there is always a sense of excitement whenever he pilots a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) as it performs various tasks below the surface of the sea. Indeed, each dive by the ROV (a submersible craft) is a voyage, ‘conquering the deep’ to achieve specific objectives.
Currently, Mitchel is based in Brunei Darussalam. Sharing on his duties and responsibilities as a Senior ROV Pilot, he highlighted, “The ROV plays an important part in the inspection of oil and gas platform structures and other subsea installations. This is part and parcel of inspection activities and procedures in line with international standards.”
With regard to his studies at Sarawak Skills (PPKS) in Miri, he shared, “I wish to thank my instructors and staff members from the various departments for their guidance and support. They prepared me for an exciting career in the oil and gas industry.” He emphasized, “Through the Mechatronics & Industrial Automation programme, in addition to relevant technical skills, I developed essential analytical and problem-solving skills. These skills have enabled me to ‘think on my feet’ as I pilot the ROV in the face of changing weather conditions and the possibility of encountering underwater hazards.”
